Donuts: Pros and cons

Donuts are a delicous and fun snack, but obviously not the healthiest. They are fatty, glaze covered indulgences but are oh-so irresistable. I for one could never turn one down if offered, but their are some facts i was interested in after eating them. For starters the unhealthiest donut at dunkin donuts is actually the blueberry crumb donut. I was actually shocked to hear this because i thoughyt it would be something like a boston creme or maple stick.

Having said that, the healthiest donut is the chocoalte frosted cocoa donut, which is a total of 270 calories. One huge negative about donuts is that they are very high in carbs. a person who eats 2,000 calories should eat 225 to 325g of carbohydrates a day. The Dunkin' Donuts' chocolate-frosted cake doughnut has 38g of carbohydrates, while the jelly-filled doughnut has 36g, so they would each account for about 11 to 16 percent of your daily carbohydrate intake.

Sugars are very important in the donut process, because they are the most important factor. They give the donut its sweet flavor. Without those sugars donuts would simply taste like bread. CalorieKing.com states that 1 oz. of the average doughnut has 6.5g of sugars. The Dunkin' Donuts chocolate-frosted cake doughnut has 19g of sugar, and the jelly-filled has 6g. Sugar content varies based on the type of doughnut and its size.
